iMac G5 1.8 17" - install 4.1 on Firewire gives PROM er

Postby rk1954m » 22 Apr 2006, 09:47

I need a distro for DBox development on a Mac.

The installation goes best up to reboot. If I give "I" it starts with prom error and freezes at the prompt waiting for keyboard input "mac-boot", I can't give. The keyboard seems to be dead.

Anybody seen a solution yet?

prom_init failure on firewire boot for YDL4.1 - any fix?

Postby falloutphil » 28 Jul 2006, 22:32

I seem to get the same/similar error.

I have installed it on an external firewire - install went fine. On reboot can get past yaboot as you'd expect but then I get

"Returning 0x01400000 from prom_init

Invalid memory address at %SRR: 01400380C ...blah...blah...blah"

and then sometimes

"Release keys to continue"

I also have a iMac G5 2Ghz 20".

Is there a fix or workaround for this?

Thanks for any help,

Phil.
