Yellow Dog Linux

I am trying to install YDL 6.1 on an Apple Xserver G5 unformated drive. I have tried both the Apple keyboard/mouse and a Dell brand keyboard/mouse. Tried holding down C during boot process and not holding down C. In either case, I get to the boot prompt but the keyboard does not work. Any ideas. I know the keyboard and mouse work because I can boot Mac OSX off of a different disk and they work fine.
