Went back to Mac OS X

I tried Yellow Dog 5.0 on my Power Book 12" G4 (866 mhz) but I switched back, I applied all the patches and still had the following problems;

The FN keys don't work
The Screen brightness keys don't work
The Modem doesnt work
3d Graphic acceleration doesnt work
The Yellow Dog package choices are dismal
The suspend modules don't work
The Machine doesnt hibernate properly
The sound works after I unmute it and set it to 75%
The Right and middle mouse keys are mapped to F11 and F12
The Number lock doesn't work
The machine also runs extremely hot.

I followed their instructions and got Wireless working although the advertisements claim to have it working.

Now this wouldn't bother me so much but YellowDog claims to have been working on Linux for almost 5 years. After 5 years I'd expect the Kernel to be optimized to support the FN keys and hibernate, that sound would work right and that Numberslock would work.

I would recommend that anybody considering putting Linux on their Powerbook don't until they get these things fixed if they ever do.

Your time is better spent tweaking MacOSX.

havent installed 5.x yet, but 3.x worked fine on my ibook se and 4.x works on my ibook g4 (though im running the lastest kernel) and everything works for me. Ill admit that 4.x needed some work initially but it worked fine after a few things

SO your telling me that;

The FN keys work
The Screen brightness works
The Modem works
3d Graphic acceleration works
The suspend modules work
The Machine hibernates properly
The sound works without unmuting it
The Right and middle mouse keys are mapped to crtl and the APPL key
The Number lock works
The wireless

On the box your running YDL 3.0 ? If that's the case then I might try a dual boot solution..

no 3d accel on the clamshell, though it works on my G4 and yes everything works on it as well (running 4.x) take a look at the log files to see the errors - it may help

I used parted sliced up my HD, works fine.. reinstalled YDL 5.01 and now I have the best of both worlds but 3d Graphic Acceleration doesnt work. What did you do to get it working?

And the mashine is hot because its cpu is on 100% (look better system monitor) (Tipp: dont use firefox because it uses more cpu (95%aprox.)

Please notice that this post was last updated in 2007.

Your answer is not related to this question, unless you're running YDL 5.0.
