PowerBook 3400c Question...

So yeah, I have an old... ok... really old PowerBook 3400c on my desk... I can't stand OS 8.6 and 9.1 drags horribly on it... My question is, can I run YDL on it with any sort of efficiency... and if so... which version would be best? Thanks in advance, and if this has already been discussed... I will gladly send myself back to the world of wintel hell...

Id say go w/ 3.x and do a custom installation that way u can choose the packages you want installed and the services to run. Shutdown most of the services (have only the ones u need all the time running at startup-u can start the others later) also use a lighter gui then kde or gnome (matter or preference here, i use windowmaker but and *box should do the trick)

So install 3.0.1 and you don't think it'll run gnome? That's one of the main reasons I like linux so much... I love the gnome interface... but yeah... if I have to use windowmaker or whatever I'll do so... I just really hate OS 8.

the gui bit was just a suggestion you can try it w/ all the eye candy stuff turned off to see how it goes but kde/gnome are resource hogs compared to some of the *box window managers

Dorkcore, did you ever get it working? As you can see at http://www.yellowdog-board.com/viewtopi ... =3482#3482 some of us are having serious issues!
