I have seen your posts about this in three other threads...

One: Don't do that.

Two: Can you give me a link to what exactly you're trying to install? I have played with e17 a bit and might be able to help. Some things you may find for e17 are not compatible with the current version (in YDL 6).

:!: I apologize about all those post

I thought I might had not put it in the proper place. There is a couple of things that I have been trying to install, but don't know how to or don't know if it is compatible to ydl v6.

1) This all stemmed from me wanting to install a theme that I found on
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/T-ish+Pack?content=30859
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/MacOS-X+Aqua+Theme?content=13548

2)I manage to install the theme without any problems it was the dock bar that I really wanted to duplicate which brought me to ITASK_NG :)
http://code.google.com/p/itask-module/wiki/ItaskNG

3) I wanted to put a composite manager on e17 after researching I read that bling module would be the one for e17. So I could do things like transparent windows, shadows, and/or other type of eye candy.
There is a lot of different youtube videos for this module. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZovBpvhZbZM
http://enlightenment.org/viewvc/e_modules/bling/module.desktop.in?r1=1.8&r2=1.7

4)From reading about this and other applications I started to get a lot of cvs commands and svn commands which I don't have a lot of understanding of with either it is already on ydl v6 if I need to install it, etc. :?
http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.1/ch01s05.html
http://subversion.tigris.org/project_packages.html
http://www.devguy.com/fp/cfgmgmt/cvs/cvs_admin_linux.htm

I hope this gives you a better understanding of my delima and frustration.

Help Please

You might be over-complicating things a bit.

Part of e17's effects are being covered up by the Nautilus file manger "desktop" running on Desktop 0,0. You can turn that off as described here. Or just switch to one of the other Desktops (1,0 2,0 etc).

I have used some themes from:
http://www1.get-e.org/Themes/E17/
To use E17 themes, just copy them to ~/.e/e/themes and choose your favorite theme from the main E17 menu.

But like I mentioned before, not all of them work properly.

I don't think you need to install anything like xcompmgr on e17. Anyway, generally you'll see directions for using cvs or svn listed with the exact command you need to enter in a terminal window.

Like with Stella, the Atari 2600 emulator, for example:
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=41847

You would do that if you wanted to download the latest source code in development, but usually for a stable release there are archives provided, as seen here (again with the Atari 2600 emulator):

http://stella.sourceforge.net/
stella-2.5-src.tar.gz Source tarball for all systems

If you get an error saying it can't find the cvs or svn command then you'll need to install it. If you checked Software Development (YDL6) during install you should already have them, I think.

In summary, you probably don't need to do any of that. Just try some of the themes from:
http://www1.get-e.org/Themes/E17/

I hope something in all this helps ... :)

Yes it did help. I didn't install the software development when I installed ydl I only installed office & productivity which explains why I was getting some errors and missing libs. I knew that there was some type of desktop running on e under Desktop 0,0 but didn't know how or if you could turn it off so that is a plus knowing that I can turn it off! :D

I have used a lot of those themes from that site w/o any problems even the animated backgrounds and animated icons.

So when I get to my ps3 I know I need to download the software dev kit which will help out alot.

But I did want to check out some of the different dockbar options like simdock for example
http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php/simdock
http://freshmeat.net/projects/simdock/
Is there anything you can do on ydl v6 compared to compiz or compiz fushion or so forth so on?

You won't be able to use anything that requires 3D acceleration, but simdock looks like it would run OK. You'll need to download and extract the source files, then view the included README file for further instructions.

It will mention some additional libraries you'll need to install and how to compile it. Since you didnt' check Software Development when you installed, you may need to install more things like gcc, for example.

There is an rpm for that application. Would I still have to compile it if there is an rpm?

I can just go under add/remove software and check "software dev" and it will install it all, right?

The rpm I saw was for i386 and you need one for ppc instead.

Re: add/remove software, if you install the entire software development group, yes I would think that would cover it. But when you check "Software Development" during install, it doesn't install everything in that group. Not sure how to bring up a list of just those items.

Last night I installed the software devel packages and everything went great. I was getting some error messages with yumex and it wouldn't update, but after the software dev install everything went well.

I also followed your directions from another forum that speaks about what services to stop that is not needed.
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=180181&page=1&pp=2

Now ydl v6 runs a lot faster! :D Tonight I plan on seeing if I can install the sim docks or itask_NG I did notice that subversion was one of the software packages installed as well as gcc I'm going to mess around with it and post my results. Thanks for the help!!

Hmm, I'm going to have to give this a try because on my YDL 6.2 load none of the e17 themes work. I used to really enjoy some of the themes on the older 5.x Load. Any idea how much space this software dev kit takes? I only have 10gig Partition for my load. I don't recall having to install that to get the themes to work in the old version. Thanks
Back on the attack after using 5.0.2. Ready to get this 6.2 up and running!
