Not me - I've been using Unix since...well... 1987. YDL Linux is pretty easy in comparison.
The key thing about Linux compared to Microsoft Windows is customization. If you're somebody who likes to tinker around, there's nothing like Linux. You can do anything you want - if you have enough time, knowledge and a little bit of programming skill.
Everything in Linux is flexible. Don't like C programming? Then don't use it - use Perl instead. Or Java. Or python. They're all there - easily available - and free. Don't like your E17 desktop? Then don't use it - load Gnome instead. Or Xfce. Or KDE. Or Fluxbox.
Anything you can think of in Linux you can do.
However - Linux doesn't hold your hand. If someone writes a program - it's up to you to find the bugs. Heck - it might even be up to you to fix them.
For me, Linux is like being handed the keys to a home-built car. A car that you can change in any way you like.
Windows is like being handed the keys to a hermetically sealed car. Sure - you can change a few things here or there. But - everything under the hood is kept under lock and key. You can't change anything in there - you can't even know what's in there.
Windows is a good, general purpose Operating System. It does what it does reasonably well. Support is good - there are a lot of people writing applications for it. (Heck - I even earn my living with it.) For most people, they need look no further.
But - since the core is closed source - you can only change it to a certain extent. This causes folks to give up digging deep into an operating system, and forces them to learn only at a surface level. Linux rewards the curious. The deeper you look, the more you learn about computing and operating systems.
I'm truly sorry Linux isn't your cup of tea. Nothing I say here will probably change your mind. But - don't assume all of us are unhappy here. For most of us on this board - this is where we want to be.
Cheers,
Paul
