Not sure what you're getting at here ... the video shows a cluster of "old" model PS3's, and the closeup of the screen at around 2:50 is probably an x86 Linux box (since it has an icon for Adobe Reader on the desktop and there's no Linux PPC version of that).
Yeah, the PS2's/PS3's in clusters are headless so most of the time they use a Red Hat/Fedora/Centos X86 box to shell into them as necessary. Sure, they could use yet another PS2/PS3, but they're put to better use adding to the power of the cluster itself.
I wonder what the NCSA ever did to their PS2 cluster when they finished using it. Those PS2's (and their HDD's and RTE discs) would be quite valuable on ebay.
