Introduction.
You will need only replace the default XF86 config file a modified version, then restart X. It is best to do this from the command line as the graphical environment without this modification is a bit messy to work in.
This HOWTO assumes one of two things: either you have a 2nd machine onto which you can download the updated XF86 config file and then transfer via a local ethernet, or you are savvy in the ways of command line web downloads.
Get it done.
- Install YDL 2.3 (the GUI installer will work). Set the video defaults to Titanium 2002, 1152x768, 16 bit, no acceleration, and "Text" login (for now). Complete the install and reboot.
- Download XF86Config-4-TiBook7500.
- Copy this file to the Titanium (or download it directly from the command-line or frustrating, but manageable GUI. Then, as root on the Titanium:
mv XF86Config-4 XF86Config-4.old [ENTER]
mv XF86Config-4-TiBook7500 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 [ENTER]
startx [ENTER] - If this works (which it should), then you may switch the run-level back to Graphical Login as follows:
pico /etc/inittab [ENTER]
... a few lines down from the top, change the run level from 3 to 5. CTRL-X to save and exit, as described that the bottom of the screen. The next time you reboot your Titanium, it will provide a graphical login instead of text.
